Biography

Thomas Claude Finlayson (SM 6264) was born in Ballarat and educated at the Humffray Street State School and Ballarat College. He was a 19 year old bank clerk when he enlisted on May 1st 1916 and joined the 8th Infantry Battalion. He left Australia in September aboard the Euripides and reached France in time for a cold, wet winter. He was severely wounded in the fighting at Passchendaele and died of his wounds on October 5th 1917. He is buried in the Lijessenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was 19 years of age.
