Biography

Herbert George Uren was born in Magpie, VIC and was a Clerk in Ballarat when he enlisted in the 14th Australian General Hospital on 17 April 1916 at the age of 27. His unit embarked on August 19th on the Karoola. He disembarked at Suez a month later and joined the 14th Australian General Hospital. In June 1917 he became ill, was diagnosed with enteric, and was not able to rejoin the staff of the 14th AGH until November. He avoided serious illness or physical injury for the remainder of the war and returned to Australia on the Dongola, reaching Melbourne on August 25th 1919.
