Biography

Alfred Rupert Trengove was born in Melbourne, Victoria, was single and a Draper when he enlisted from Ballarat with the 39th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement on 8 June 1916 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A9 Shropshire on 25 September 1916. He proceeded overseas to France on 20 December 1916. While serving in France he was wounded in action on 7 June 1917 and again on 4 October 1917, this time with a severe gunshot wound to the head. He was invalided to Australia, returning on 30 January 1918.
