Biography

George David Charles Jones (SN 2935) was born in Ballarat and educated at Wendouree State School. He enlisted in Western Australia July 10th 1916. He was 38 years old, married and a farmer and had previously served in the Boer War. He was posted to the 51st Infantry Battalion Regimental and embarked from Fremantle in November on board the Argylshire. After several months training in England, he was posted to France in July 1917. He was killed in action at Polygon Wood on September 26th 1917. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
