Biography

Mervyn Walter Reynolds (SN 6376) was born in Ballarat and was a Driver by trade when he enlisted in the 21st Battalion, 18th Reinforcement on 26 June 1916 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 23 November 1916. In August 1917 he attended the Physical and Bayonet Training School at Aldershot then in October he joined the 21st Battalion in France. Two months later he was sent back to England, to hospital, suffering from bronchial pneumonia. He returned to France in August 1918, and just three weeks before the end of the war, he was transferred to the 24th Battalion. Two weeks after the signing of the Armistice he was evacuated to the Exeter War Hospital in England suffering from influenza. He returned to Australia on the Nevasa and disembarked at Melbourne on Anzac Day 1919.
