Biography

Gerald Edwin Martin was a single 18 year old boilermaker at the time of his enlistment on the 17th of August 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on the 2nd of October 1916.
On the 25th of August 1918, Edwin was wounded in action, he was invalided to the U.K on the 28th of August and on the 30th of August, Edwin was admitted to Beaufort War Hospital in Bristol, England after being gassed.
Edwin returned to Australia on the 23rd of March 1919, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 24th of June 1919.
