Biography

Harold Michael Kett (SN 4529) was a 23 year old labourer, born in Ballarat, when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 5th 1915. He embarked aboard the Themistocles on January 28th 1916. Initially posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion, he was transferred to the 58th Battalion in April 1917 then in August he joined the 15th Brigade Machine Gun Company and in April 1918 he was transferred to the 5th Machine Gun Battalion. He came through the war without significant illness or wounds and disembarked back in Melbourne on July 5th 1919. He was discharged on August 20th 1919.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Harold M. Ketts.
