Biography

Geoffrey Salmon was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Station hand when he enlisted in the Divisional Ammunition Column 3, Section 1 on 22 March 1916 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A37 Barambah on 27 June 1916. He was admitted to Southwark Military Hospital, suffering eczema of the scalp and right ear and was invalided to 25th General Military Hospital at Mardelot, France until he was discharged to furlough on 22 January 1918. He was able to re-join his unit from England on 26 February 1918, continuing to serve without major incident, illness or injury until his return to Australia aboard the Karmala on 2 July 1919.
