Harry Arthur Elsworth (SN 566) born in Ballarat, was a married 37 year old miner when he enlisted in Sydney on August 9th 1916. He embarked aboard the Orontes on December 23rd bound for England. After further training in England, he crossed to France in September 1917 to serve with the 5th Division Machine Gun Company. He avoided battle wounds but was limited by illness and was returned to Australia late in 1918 and discharged ‘medically unfit, rheumatism’.
