George Mathew Sully (SN 3145) was born in Ballarat but enlisted as a 27 year old labourer in Footscray on September 18th 1916. The bachelor was allocated to the 37th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on board the Ballarat in February 1917. He reached England in April then crossed to France in August. On October 4th 1917 he was killed in action at Broodseinde. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
