Born in Ballarat, William Murray was a single 25 year old benchman at the time of his enlistment on the 25th of October 1916 in his birth town. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on the 19th of February 1917.
On the 10th of February 1918, William was wounded in action after being gassed. He rejoined his unit on the 21st of February 1918.
He returned to Australia on the 20th of August 1919, and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 1st of December 1919.
