Biography

John Charles Palethorpe was born in Ballarat and was a Labourer when he enlisted in the 7th Battalion, 22nd Reinforcement on 27 October 1916 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT SS Port Napier on 17 November 1916. On 22 October 1917 he received a gunshot wound to the right ankle joint and was evacuated to England. The injury proved to be serious and he was medically discharged on 5 July 1918.
