William Henry Luke was born in Ballarat and was a Railway Employee when he enlisted in the 57th Battalion, 8th Reinforcement on 27th October 1916 at the age of 35. He was posted to the 5th infantry Battalion with Regimental No. 3192. He was fatally wounded during the 2nd Battle of Villers-Bretonneux and died on 27th April 1918. He is buried in the Crouy British Cemetery (Plot II, Row A, Grave No. 8), Crouy-Sur-Somme, France
His brother, Thomas James Albert Luke (Tree No. 2246), also served.
