Biography

Herbert Edward John Stanley was born in Melbourne, but enlisted in Ararat on 9th November 1914. He was a labourer, aged 20 years and unmarried. He joined the 8th Light Horse Regiment, with Regimental No. 857. Om 7th August 1915 he was killed in action on Walker's Ridge, and is buried in The Nek Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.

His brother, Sergeant David Roy Stanley, 2nd Pioneer Battalion also served. He died of wounds, 4 July 1919. (Tree No. 2810)
