Biography

Norman Edward Johnson Schmidt (SN 2253) was born at Miram in Western Victoria and attended Nhill High School. He was an 18 year old draper when he enlisted in Ballarat on November 15th 1916. He joined the 4th Light Horse Regiment Field Ambulance and embarked from Melbourne on board the Karmala in February 1917. He was killed in action on November 1st 1917, during the fighting at Khuweilfe, Palestine, and is buried in Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.
