Biography

James Greenbank (SN 2745 / 3225) born at Ballarat, was a 23 year old labourer when he enlisted in Bairnsdale on September 21st 1914. Assigned to the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade he embarked aboard the Borda on December 22nd and sailed to Egypt before serving at Gallipoli. After the Gallipoli campaign he was moved to France in June 1916. He avoided battle wounds but was hospitalised in 1916 due to influenza and in 1917 due to mumps. In April 1917 he was transferred to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade with whom he saw out the war. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Sydney, disembarked at Melbourne on December 2nd 1918 and was discharged on January 31st 1919.
