Biography

Conrad Gerald Zilles (SN 653), a 23 year old carpenter from Talbot street in Ballarat, enlisted on November 29th 1916. He embarked for overseas service in May 1917. He sailed first to England then reached France in January 1918 and served out the final year of the war with the 4th Machine Gun Battalion. He returned safely to Australia aboard the Pt Napier and disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919.
His brothers George and Charles also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
