Biography

Charles Tobias Tuxen was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Carpenter when he enlisted with the 8th Battalion, 18th Reinforcement on 12 February 1916 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A33 Ayrshire on 3 July 1916. He was transferred to hospital from the field for Trench Feet, transferred to England on 29 November 1916. He rejoined his battalion on 3 July 1917 and prior to reporting to hospital in France as sick again, was promoted to Lance Corporal, receiving a promotion to Corporal on 2 August 1918. He returned to Australia 5 September 1919.
