Biography

Born in Ballarat, Alfred Thomas Halse was a single 22 year old undertaker when he enlisted in Melbourne on the 16th of January 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on the 9th of November 1915.
In 1917 Alfred was promoted in January, June and October to Lance Corporal, Corporal and then Sergeant.
On August 30th 1918, he was awarded the Military Medal.
Alfred was promoted to Company Sergeant Major on the 10th of January 1919.
He returned to Australia on the 6th of August 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 29th of September 1919.
