Harold Edwin Halse (SN 2605) was born and educated in Ballarat but at the time of his enlistment, was 24, single, and working as a carpenter at Broken Hill, on May 1915, listing his father Alfred also living in Broken Hill as his next of kin, and it was mentioned he enjoyed music and was a cornet player in two different bands. After joining the 8th Infantry Battalion and left Australia in September 15th, 1915 embarking from Melbourne, on board the Makarini on 15 September 1915.
Spending some time in Mudros (Lemnos) with a contusion to his back and malaria, he then joined his unit in France. First reported missing, followed by the news he had been killed in action at Pozieres on August 18th, 1916. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
