Biography

James Lumsden (SN 2108) was born in Clarendon and attended the Scotsburn State School. He enlisted on June 14th 1916, at which time he was a 25 year old, unmarried farmer. He joined the 39th Infantry Battalion and sailed from Australia in late September on board the Shropshire. During the fighting around Messines, Belgium, he was mortally wounded and died on 8th June 1917. He is buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France.

His brother John was killed in France in September 1918 and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
