Claud Victor Sior (SN 18320) was born in Ballarat on 10 May 1887 to parents William Edwin and Mary Emily Sior née Sweet. Claud was a watchmaker by trade and he first enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force on 4 April, 1916. However, due to his varicose veins, his application was forwarded to the Medical Board and was rejected. He enlisted a second time on 28 December 1916 with the 2nd Signals Troop at the age of 30. After spending the next few months at Signal School, Claud's unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board Port Sydney on 9 May 1917, arriving in Suez on 20 June 1917. The next eighteen months saw Claud admitted to hospital on numerous occasions for minor ailments.
On 22 June 1919, Claud was approved for non-military employment and within the week had arrived in the UK where he attended the British Optical Institute. On the 2 December 1919 Sapper Sior rejoined the 2nd Signals Troop and returned to Australia aboard Cape Verde on 26 February 1920. He was discharged on 10 May 1920.
On 5 September 1925 Claud married Ida Emeline Mailey at Burwood, New South Wales.
On 13 July 1940, Claud enlisted for war service at Wayville, South Australia. (SN S96) He lowered his age to be accepted and gave his profession as jeweller and optician. Once again, numerous ailments saw him sent to hospital over the next couple of years. On 18 May 1942 he was placed on the seriously ill list suffering from pneumonia. He returned to his unit and on 11 Jan 1943 was promoted to Corporal. He was discharged on 22 April 1944.
Claud Victor Sior died on 23 September 1974 at Loxton, South Australia.
