Biography

Stanley Herbert Smith (SN 777) was born in Ballarat but enlisted as a labourer in Mildura on September 21st 1914. He was 21 years old and a single. He was drafted to the 14th Infantry Battalion, embarking from Melbourne just prior to Christmas on board the Ulysses. On April 27th 1915 he was declared as having been killed in action following the confused fighting with the landing at Anzac Cove. He is buried in Courtney’s & Steele's Post Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
