Biography

Born in 1876 at Steiglitz, Victoria, William George Anderson (SN 7385), a 40-year-old labourer, was living in Blair Street, Ballarat East and married to Mary when he enlisted on January 9th, 1917. He trained at the Broadmeadows camp before being assigned to the 14th Battalion. He embarked for overseas service on the Ballarat on February 19th, 1917. Soon after reaching England, he was hospitalised with a chronic elbow complaint. Other medical problems followed, particularly bronchitis, and his time was spent in England. He returned to Australia in early 1919 aboard the Suevic and was subsequently discharged. He died in July 1932 at the age of 57 and is buried in the Ballarat New Cemetery.
