Frederick Henry Larkins (SN 1597) born at Ballarat, was a 25 year old engine driver when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 19th 1915. He embarked aboard the Bakara on November 9th and sailed to England before joining the 31st Battalion in France in June 1916. In December, while on leave in England he was admitted to Bulford Hospital for 42 days. It was not until October that he rejoined his unit. In August 1918 he suffered a shrapnel wound to his neck and was evacuated to England. Shortly after the fighting ceased, he was promoted to Warrant Officer Class 2. He returned to Australia aboard the Ulysses, disembarked on September 2nd 1919 and was discharged on October 25th.
