Biography

Leslie Stevenson was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Grocer when he enlisted with the 31st Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement on 16 July 1915 at the age of 28. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on 3 January 1916. He was admitted to hospital as sick (undefined) in May 1916 and again in December before proceeding overseas to France. In December 1917 he was appointed as an acting Sergeant with the 12th Engineering Battalion. He remained with this unit until his return to Australia from England on 9 December 1918.
