Biography

William Henry Leach (SN 18730) was born at Millbrook, east of Ballarat, and was a married 28 year old carpenter when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 23rd 1917. He embarked from Sydney aboard the Anchises on August 8th , reached England in October and then crossed to France in January 1918 to serve with the 11th Field Company Engineers. Several bouts of enteritis and dysentery punctuated his service. After the war, he left England aboard the Ascanius on September 23rd 1919 and reached Melbourne on November 6th. He was discharged on March 9th 1920.
