John ‘Jack’ Lamont (SN 18715) born in Ballarat, was a 44 year old tailor when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 2nd 1917. He trained with the Australian Medical Corps before embarking aboard the Nestor on November 21st and sailing to Egypt. A number of illnesses, including influenza, meant it was not until May 1918 that he was moved on to England. It was October before he was moved to France to serve out the final month of the war with the 12th Field Ambulance. He returned home aboard the Anchises, disembarked at Melbourne on October 8th 1919 and was discharged on November 7th.
