Newman Garfield Andrews enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 19 on the 27th of April 1917. He had been born in Kingston, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Labourer. He volunteered and was stationed with the HMAS Encounter as a Boy Sailor. He then was posted to numerous different ships including HMAS Brisbane and HMAS Penguin with the Regimental number 6103. He was discharged and Returned to Australia in 14th of May 1923. Tree number 2914a.
