Biography

Newman Garfield Andrews (SN 6103) born at Kingston, was a 16 year old when he enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on Anzac Day, April 25th, 1917. He commenced his service aboard the Tingira but most of his war service was on the Encounter. In August 1918 he was promoted to Ordinary Seaman. It seems he avoided serious illness or injury during his service from which he was discharged in May 1923.

His brother Allan also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
