Robert Sharp (SN 2923) was born at Smeaton and joined the Royal Australian Navy as a 16 year old on May 17th 1913. Aboard HMAS Australia he was part of the Australian Military and Naval Expeditionary Force that saw action in German New Guinea in September 1914.
