Biography

Archibald Black (SN 4511), born in Ballarat, was a 26 year old storeman when he enlisted on October 9th 1916. On December 16th he embarked aboard the Medic and sailed to England. After further training in England he joined the 29th Infantry Battalion in France on October 12th 1917. On August 9th 1918 he sustained a shrapnel wound to his right arm and was evacuated to hospital in England. After the signing of the Armistice he went absent without leave for six days for which he was fined three days pay. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Melbourne, disembarked on May 20th 1919 and was discharged shortly after that.
