Neil Neilsen enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 22 on the 15th of July 1915. He had been born in Portland, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Labourer. He volunteered and was stationed with the 14th Battalion, 10th Reinforcement as Regimental number 3103. He was taken Prisoner in Germany and transferred to Holland to be interrred in a Prisoner of War Camp. He returned to Australia on the 17th of June 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Neils Neilson.
