Angus Gordon Twaits (SN 1791) born in Ballarat, was a married 24 year old watchmaker when he enlisted in Melbourne on March 19th 1917. He trained as an air mechanic with the Australian Flying Corps at Laverton before embarking from Sydney aboard the Beltana on June 16th 1917 and sailing to England. In September he was admitted to hospital suffering a fractured coccyx, but his record provides no information regarding the cause. He was returned to Australia aboard the Persic, disembarked on February 12th 1918 and was discharged medically unfit on May 24th.

His brother James also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
