Biography

Ebenezer Thomas was born in Ballarat and was a Painter by trade when he enlisted in the 22nd Battalion, 19th Reinforcement on 8 February 1917 at the age of 44. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 11 May 1917. In December 1917 he joined the 22nd Battalion in France. On March 17th 1918 he was wounded when he suffered concussion from a shell burst, but was able to rejoin his unit a week later. In April he developed severe bronchitis which required his evacuation to the Exeter War Hospital, and then to Australia. He returned home on the Medic and reached Melbourne on October 11th 1918. He was discharged soon after as æmedically unfit – chronic bronchitis'.

He died in June of the following year, 1919, aged 48.
