Biography

John William Stewart Orr was born in Horsham, VIC and was a Labourer when he enlisted in the 4th Light Horse Regiment, 1st Reinforcement on 25 September 1914 at the age of 21. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A43 Barunga on 22 December 1914. On 7 November 1915 he was admitted to hospital as wounded with a gunshot wound to the right thigh. He recovered and re-joined his unit but later suffered dyspepsia and was hospitalised. He was discharged as medically unfit on 27 march 1919.
