Biography

Arthur Roland Hill (SN 7607 ) born at Ararat, was a married 31 year old artist when he enlisted in Melbourne on March 21st 1917. Assigned to the 5th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Themistocles on August 4th 1917 and sailed to England. He crossed to the battlefields of France in April 1918 and aside from some minor disciplinary charges and minor illness he came through the final months of the war without incident. He returned to Australia aboard the Marathon, disembarked at Melbourne on January 1st 1919 and was discharged on April 19th ‘medically unfit, effort syndrome’.
