Biography

Thomas Joseph Ward was born in Ballarat and was a Farmer when he enlisted in the 29th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement on 5 April 1917 at the age of 21. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A29 Suevic on 21 June 1917. On New Year's Day 1918 he joined the 38th Battalion in France. He served through the final year of the war without illness or physical injury and returned to Australia on the Wiltshire, disembarking at Melbourne on August 19th 1919.
