Born in Buninyong, Victoria, Harry Luke was a single 19 year old stuff cutter at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 5th of April 1917. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A29 Suevic on the 21st of June 1917.
On the 29th of January 1919 he was awarded the Croix De Guerre.
Harry returned to Australia on the 19th of August 1919 and was discharged on the 28th of September 1919.
