William Thomas Wills (SN 1451) was born at Maryborough and was a 35 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on September 28th 1914. Attached to the 7th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Clan MacGillivray on February 2nd 1915. He came ashore at Gallipoli on May 8th and was immediately wounded in action, suffering a ‘gunshot wound, upper extremities. The wound effectively ended his active service, and he was evacuated and returned to Australia aboard the Ballarat, disembarking at Melbourne on August 6th 1915. He was discharged ‘medically unfit, wounded’ on February 8th 1916.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Willam T. Wills.
