Alfred Henry Wilson (SN 7585) was a ‘motorman’ with Ballarat Tramways when he enlisted as a 32 year old on July 2nd 1917. He trained with the Sportsman’s Unit, 2nd Depot Battalion, at Broadmeadows before embarking for overseas service on the Themistocles on August 4th 1917. He reached Glasgow in early October, then, in February 1918 he joined the 7th Battalion in France. In April he transferred to the 1st Australian Machine Gun Battalion and on August 9th 1918 he suffered a gunshot wound to his scalp, which necessitated his evacuation to hospital in England. After the war he returned to Australia on the Persic, disembarking in Melbourne on August 29th 1919. He died on December 16th 1939 aged 55.
