Biography

William Paisley (SN 78449) was born in Durham, UK, but grew up in Ballarat where he attended the Macarthur Street State School. He enlisted in Sydney on June 11th 1917 as a 39 year old unmarried boilermaker. On July 29th 1917, while working on a roofing project at the engineer training camp at Roseville, Sydney, he was struck by lightning and killed. He is buried in the Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, where he also has a plaque on the Memorial Wall in the Garden of Remembrance.
