Biography

Born in Smythesdale, Victoria, James William Hunter was a single 19 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment on the 29th of September 1914. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on the 22nd of December 1914.
On the 25th of April 1915, he wounded his forearm. He rejoined his battalion on the 31st of May 1915.
On the 16th of June 1916, James returned to Australia, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 6th of September 1916.
