Biography

18 year old William Charles Nicholson was a driver by trade at the time of his enlistment on the 13th of August 1917. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on the 21st of November 1917. He was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his arm on the 20th of July 1918. He marched out to his unit on the 2nd of November 1918. On the 21st of November 1918 he was transferred to the 2nd Australian Division Train from the 24th Battalion, where he was appointed driver on the 10th of January 1919 and then promoted to Lance Corporal on the 3rd of February 1919.
William returned to Australia on the 5th of September 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 28th of September 1919.
