Cyril Smythe McCooke enlisted in Ballarat, Victoria at the age of 21 on the 10th of August 1917. He had been born in Merrigum, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Motor Mechanic. He volunteered and was stationed with the Australian Flying Corps, 10th Reinforcements with the Regimental number 2346. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 6th of May 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Cyril S. McCook.
