Henry Davies Gordon (SN 5022) was born at Scarsdale and was a married 34 year old clerk when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 14th 1917. He had previously served with the Army Pay Corps but had been discharged in June 1917 ‘conduct good, services no longer required’. Now assigned to the 29th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Ulysses on December 22nd 1917. He reached the battlefields of France in May 1918 and aside from a sprained ankle, he served without major illness or injury. He returned home aboard the Kigoma disembarked at Fremantle on May 20th 1920 the travelled overland to Melbourne where he was discharged on August 22nd.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Gordon H. Davies.
