George William Waller (SN 14280) was born in Ballarat and was a Bank Clerk when he enlisted in the Australian Army Service Reinforcements on 8 September 1916 at the age of 19. His unit then embarked on May 10th 1917 on the Clan MacGillivray as a reinforcement for the 39th Battalion. In February 1918 he transferred to the 4th Division Ammunition Column in France, as a driver. In September 1918 he was invalided to the U.K. on account of an accidental sprained ankle. In January 1919 he sailed for Australia on the Ceramic, disembarked at Melbourne on March 23rd and was discharged a month later.
