Robert Joseph Lindsey (SN 1128) was born in Allendale but attended Ballarat’s Urquhart Street State School. He was 26 years old, unmarried and a tram conductor when he enlisted on September 29th 1914. He joined the 8th infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on board the Themistocles just a few days before Christmas. He was killed in action at Krithia, Gallipoli, on May 3rd 1915, has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine.
