Biography

Peter Holian (SN 6869) born at Deans Marsh, was a married 42 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 31st1917. He embarked aboard the Nestor on November 21st and sailed first to Egypt and then on to England where he disembarked in late January 1918. He was allotted to the 23rd Infantry Battalion but illness prevented his deployment to the Western Front. He returned to Australia aboard the Essex and was discharged on November 22nd 1918 ‘medically unfit, varicose veins’.
