Biography

Harry Johnson (SN 5045) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old farm labourer when he enlisted at Ballarat on August 8th 1917. He embarked aboard the Ulysses on December 22nd and sailed via Egypt to England. In May 1918 he was deployed to France to serve with the 29th Infantry Battalion. In September gastritis and myalgia forced his evacuation to hospital in England where he remained until the Armistice was signed. He returned to Australia aboard the Delta, disembarked at Melbourne on March 10th 1919 and was discharged on March 25th .
