Alexander Peter Hugh Drummond (SN 3293) born in Ballarat and was an 18 year old labourer he enlisted on September 8th 1917. His mother Maud, while consenting to his enlistment also requested that he not leave Australia until he had attained the age of 19. On December 22nd 1917 he embarked for overseas aboard the Ulysses. His service got off to a troubled start when on March 21st 1918 he was charged for ‘overstaying his disembarkation leave by one day’ for which he forfeited three day’s pay. On May 20th he moved to France to serve with the 38th Battalion but was severely restricted by ongoing illness. After three months in France he was transferred back to hospital in England where it was eventually determined that he should be returned to Australia. He returned home aboard the Marmari on February 4th 1919 and was discharged as ‘medically unfit – Trench Fever' on February 26th.
